The Birmingham Gladiators of the Americas Basketball International (ABI), the "Magic
City's" professional basketball team, had an incredible win against a very skilled and
veteran Venezuela National Basketball Team on July 23, 2009 at Bill Harris Arena at Fair
Park.

The Gladiators, coached by Jerry P. Seale, won 86-84 with two free throws by former
UAB basketball player Frank Holmes who ended up scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds.  
The leading scorers for the Gladiators were Daryl Wilson with 21 points, Monyea Pratt
with 21 points, and Lawrence Kinnard with 18 points.  For the Venezuelan National
Team, Jose Vargas scored 15 points, Carlos Cedeno 12 points, Alejandro Bamos 10
points, Heissler Guillent 10 points, and Rogue Osono led the team with 8 rebounds and
10 points.

By defeating the Venezuelan National Team, the ABI continues to hold the Freewill
Games title for the 2nd year in a row, and the Birmingham Gladiators remain undefeated
in international competition with a record 5 - 0.

The Americas Basketball International has established the FREEWILL GAMES to
embrace the universal appeal for the game of basketball.  Teams From Mexico,
Nigeria, Venezuela, Liberia, The Dominican Republic, Uruguay, and the ABI will
participate.  There will be a free agent camp for players to tryout for these teams.
The ABI will be conducting camps to teach the cultural diversity in professional
sports for the kids in these cities.
